Troubleshooting

Github Desktop is asking me for credentials, what should I do?

You actually don’t need to enter credentials to use Github Desktop. Simply click the “Skip this step” link in the Github Desktop starting view and continue with cloning the repository you want. This will let you proceed without any hassle.

Should I use GitHub Desktop or Sourcetree?

We recommend using Github Desktop as your Git client, however if your company prefers and asks you to use Sourcetree, it is also a great option. If your company doesn’t let you use any of this tools, we’ll be happy to guide you, just contact us here.

Can I sync a Git folder with my cloud storage service (G drive, OneDrive,etc.) ?

We suggest you to not use any file sync or cloud storage solution with any Git directory since the Git folder will be constantly changing as you work and switch branches, prompting you to constantly back up your folder and uploading unnecessary data. With Git you get all the traceback of changes and versions that you use within your project and you will always have access to those.
