Principal/Lead Fullstack Engineer

Help define the future of hardware development by building a collaboration platform for circuit designs, enabling the next generation of smart vehicles, IoT devices, rockets, medical devices, robotics, and much more.

At AllSpice, we’re building the agile development environment for hardware designers, including a Git-friendly translation layer and automated CI/CD framework for native circuit designs – think GitHub/GitLab + Copilot for electronics.

We’re building on AllSpice’s ECAD-native translation layer and collaboration platform to build additional CAD design and review capabilities, like 3D file rendering, design reuse, and much more.

In this role, you will take a major ownership stake in our full-stack web application, which includes collaborating closely with Product Management to architect & implement complex data rendering, user management, and novel features for hardware engineering teams. The initial role will be about 75/25 individual contributions to management projects and can optionally transition to increased management as the team grows.

If you are passionate about sorting out complex software architecture decisions, working across multidisciplinary teams, and shipping great software, this could be a great role for you.

What will you do?

This is a high-impact role that comes with lots of autonomy and requires a self-driven, collaborative person. You will be focused on owning major components of our application architecture, and should be able to:

  • Work closely with product management to architect & implement novel solutions for hardware engineers
  • Implement solutions that cross front-end, back-end, and infrastructure teams
  • Engage with open-source communities used in our software to upstream relevant changes, and influence key decisions
  • Own the software delivery process for the team, identifying and implementing possible improvements
  • Maintain a high level of technical quality through both process and mentorship

Example projects

  • Optimize delivery & rendering of complex CAD documents (100k+ elements)
  • Implement a 3d rendering engine for PCBs
  • Design scalable APIs and data models for CAD documents stored in Git repositories

Our stack

Expectations

  • Gitea application soft fork
  • Playwright for e2e testing
  • GitHub actions for CI/CD
  • Docker Swarm & Terraform for deployment
  • AWS
  • Postgres DB
  • Rust – backend utility functions

Our ideal candidate should have the following:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Availability to work out of our flex offices in San Francisco or Boston on a hybrid basis (2-3 times/week)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technology-related field
  • Project management skills with ability to lead and collaborate with varied stakeholders, from engineers to customers, to move projects forward
  • Experience managing software projects using tools such as JIRA, Notion, or a similar issue-tracking system
  • Can think in terms of the big picture but deliver on the details
  • Ability to manage ambiguity gracefully, autonomy, and confidence in being self-directed

Relevant skills

You don’t necessarily have to be proficient in all of these, but the more you know, the better:

  • Go, TypeScript, Vue, Rust programming language
  • Common Web Architectures + interfaces
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Hiring and Project Management

Benefits

Supportive and smart colleagues, flexible work, opportunity to make a big impact, competitive salary & equity, health, dental, vision, generous PTO, home office stipend.
